Project Description

Sant Miquel de
Vilaplana, s. XI-XII

The church of Sant Miquel and the small town of Vilaplana are located in a plateau of the ridge that makes the orographic top between Peramola Tiurana and plain. There is evidence that the parish of Sant Miquel has been inhabited since 1280 to the present. The church is set just outside the village of Vilaplana. Sant Miquel keeps on the architectural tradition of rural Romanesque chapels of one nave. The household is made of regular rows of framing square stones with clay. From the apse to the middle of the south wall there is a small rear building, which would be the sacristy. Simple and with lack of ornamentation, the church by its characteristic structure can be considered from the second phase of the Romanesque, between Lombard and ilerdense.
